2024 Chronological Bible Reading Plan

It is that time of year in which you may be thinking about your goals for 2024. Does one of them include reading the ENTIRE Bible in a year? If so, this is the post for you!

But First, Let’s Talk Chronological

One of my favorite way to read the Bible is in chronological order. Many people do not know this but, the order in which the Bible is, does not follow the timeline of how these events actually occurred. There is also a 400 year time span between the old and new testament! Reading the Bible Chronologically helps you understand the story in a more linear fashion. One big reason people misunderstand the Bible is because they lack the context of what was happening during that time. Reading the Bible chronologically helps us piece some of that context together, especially when we keep key dates in mind. I personally enjoy watching the story unfold as it happens rather than jumping back and forth. You may have noticed this occurrence when you read all of 1 & 2 Kings and then 1 & 2 Chronicles; the two tell a similar story but with different key points. When you read these chronologically it is easier to keep up with those key points at one time.
Embarking on a chronological journey through the Bible unveils an extraordinary tapestry of history, wisdom, and faith. It’s more than just following a timeline; it’s about understanding the seamless narrative of humanity’s relationship with the divine. By reading it chronologically, the evolution of thoughts, cultures, and divine interventions becomes clearer, offering a profound insight into the development of faith and the human condition. It allows for a deeper grasp of context, connections between events, and the gradual unfolding of timeless truths.

The Reading Plan

In order to fulfill the reading of the Bible Chronologically in 2024, I adapted a 2023 reading plan from Blue Letter Bible. One unique thing about 2024 is that it is a leap year, so you get an extra day to read or catch up if you get behind! This plan focuses on about 3 chapters a day. I’ve done various plans throughout the years and this format is honestly the most do-able. If you are just reading and not spending too much time deep diving into the scriptures, you can read the allotted amount in 30 minutes or less. This also gives you time to take a deeper dive into the reading if you are able to set aside about an hour a day of study time. I also know from experience that with this format it is easy to get back on track if you miss a few days since it is not a huge amount of reading per day.

The above photo is an example of the reading plan for the month of January. I have sized the printable down to fit inside of the Bible Buddy! The Bible Buddy is the system I designed to hold all of my important Bible Study information and references. If you are unfamiliar with the Bible Buddy please check out some of my previous posts that can be found on the home page. Essentially the printable is sized to A5, however it can be printed to fit a standard piece of paper. Below is the free download of the plan! What Translation Should I Use?

The best thing about this plan is that it is suited for any translation of your choosing! There is a lot of debate out there regarding different translations and which one is “the best” or “most accurate.” The thing to remember about translations is that- they are translations so unless you can read Hebrew or Greek, you are always reading a text that has been interpreted by man to fit the language spoken. All of that to say, the best translation is the one that is getting you reading your Bible daily and one that you can understand!

The Journal

To aid in the goal of reading the Bible Daily and to allow for notes each day, I created a journal that follows this exact plan. Here is an exert from the Journal:

There are two days per page and each section features a place to write the theme of the day, record key verses that stand out, general note taking, application, and a spot for a prayer. This journal also helps you stay on track each day as all the readings are laid out for you. It is especially designed for 2024 as it includes the leap year day. This journal is not necessary as you can download the plan for free, however is a helpful tool to keep you on track as you read and a great keepsake to look back on throughout the year with all that you have learned recorded in one place!

The journal can be purchased from Amazon* as a print on demand item from the following link:

My personal copy has not arrived in the mail yet, but be on the look out on my Instagram: @rayofsunshine.art for a full flip when it arrives! I designed these to be printed on higher pound paper so that they will last longer and be suitable for any type of pen that you choose. If you prefer to purchase a digital copy, please message me on the contact form located at the bottom of the home page. If there is enough interest I will make it available to download at a reduced rate.

Final Thoughts

I hope that you will join me in this reading plan for 2024! I will be posting insights through monthly recaps on this page at the end of each month. I would love to have you all join me and share your insights on the readings each month!
