Welcome to the end of March in our 2024 Chronological Bible Reading Plan. This month we rounded out Numbers, read the whole book of Deuteronomy, finished Joshua, started Judges, and had a Psalm 91 to read! Let’s dive into some insights regarding the different books. Don’t forget to add your insights to the comments section as well. At the end of each section I have included a journal prompt or Bible study activity. Please share these in the comments section.
Numbers
Numbers recounts the gradual fulfillment of the promises God made to the descendants of Abraham. We see in the cloud and the fire over the tabernacle that God was with the people the entire time however, because of their unbelief their entry into Canaan was delayed. Many of people lost their lives due to not trusting God and following His ways even when it does not make sense to us. In the end the people were prepared to enter the land. Journal what ways you have followed God’s way even when it did not make sense to you.
Deuteronomy
Deuteronomy recognizes how we need God to act within our hearts in order to achieve faithful obedience to God’s covenant. In order for the people to have successful lives in the new land they needed to display fervent love to God in response to His love. Define what fervent love is in your journal.
Joshua
In Joshua we get to see the people of Israel have peace and rest in the land under the leadership of Joshua. It is in Joshua we have the story of Rahab. A lady whom is able to be saved from destruction due to hiding two men to spy on the city of Jericho prior to their attack. The walls of Jericho tumbling down is one of those great stories of triumph in the Bible. Take a moment to journal what you can learn for Rahab.
Judges
Judges shows the downward spiral of Israel into chaos and apostasy. This occurred due to the people continuing to choose sin over doing what was commanded to them through the covenant. In Judges we meet some interesting people like Gideon and Samson. A good study tip for Judges is to make a chart with the 12 judges noting the verse reference, tribe they are from, period of oppression, period of rest, total length of time they judged, and any other important notes you find.
Psalm 91
Psalm 91 states the importance of putting all your trust and hope in God. That when you dwell in His shelter, you will be protected. Pick a verse from from Psalm 91 and do a verse map on it. Share your insights in the comments.
