CBRP24: June Recap

Published by

on

The month of June started out with a recap of Proverbs, if you followed along with the Proverbs a Day in May challenge and then went into a variety of different books of the Bible. We worked through some of 1 Kings and 2 Chronicles with stops in Ecclesiastes and Obadiah. Let’s dive into a closer look at some of our readings.

Proverbs

What stood out to me in Proverbs is the repetition regarding wisdom and not to be swayed by the adulator. We often think of adultery as solely cheating on one’s spouse with someone else. The Bible uses this concept to illustrate the importance of a covenant relationship with God. When we are persuaded by the world to engage in activities that are not in line with God we are engaging in an adulterous relationship. This is repeated throughout Proverbs because of how important it is for us to remember. When it comes to wisdom we are instructed to seek it out and we do that by being Spirit led and engaging in Bible study. Let me know in the comments what your favorite Proverb is and why!

Kings and Chronicles

The main theme in the two books of Kings is that God oversaw the destruction and temple that led to the exile to Babylon because of Israel’s sinfulness. We follow the royal line through these books and find that God’s line does not come to an end. In both Kings and Chronicles we continue to follow Solomon’s reign which is a continuation of King David as Solomon completes all that David started.

Obadiah

Due to the shortness of Obadiah, this is a good book to focus in on keywords. When I went through the book I marked the words: The day, day of the Lord, Edom (Esau), Jacob (Judah), the nations, Mount Zion (My Holy Mountain), and Thus says the Lord. In this book the main purpose was spelled out in Lamentations 4:22: restoration for Zion and doom for Edom.
