We are just two days away from the celebration of Rosh Hashanah or what has come to be known as the Jewish New Year. This is due to it commemorating when God finished creating the earth. Similar to New Years, it is a time for reflection and setting intentions into the next year. Rosh Hashanah is celebrated starting on the eve of October 2nd until Friday, October 4th. Rosh Hashanah also starts the 10 Day of Aw before Yom Kippur.
One of the traditions of Rosh Hashanah is dipping an apple into honey and eating it as a symbol of anticipating a sweet upcoming year. Pomegranates are also associated with this holiday as they are a symbol of hope.
The shofar is blown on this day. See below for a video of the shofar in action on Rosh Hashanah three years ago.
The Challah bread takes on a different view as it is backed into a circle to represent the cycle of the year.
I encourage you to take some time to reflect on new beginnings and your walk with the Lord during this time.
L’shanah Tovah! May this Rosh Hashanah bring you peace, prosperity, and the sweetness of new beginnings.
