We are currently in the feast known as Sukkot or Feast of Tabernacles/ Booths. Let’s take a closer look at what this feast is all about. Sukkot is the 8 day feast in which people dwell in a sukkah during meals and some even camp out for the entirety of the feast.
The sukkah is a booth that consists of three sides and is meant to be a temporary dwelling. The top is to be covered in a natural material that allows for the sky to be seen through it. The booth itself is a reminder of the wilderness journey from Egypt to the Promise Land. Below is a replica sukkah that I made with a peg doll.

Another item that is used during Sukkot is the lulav. This is waved at the four corners of the world (cardinal directions) to symbolize that the Lord is over all. We also hear of the four species during this feast which are the lulav/ palm branch, the hadas/ myrtle, the arava/ willow and the etrog/ citron.
The booth is also a representation not only of Israel’s freedom from bondage and God’s protection but that the Messiah is in the sukkah protecting us and dwelling with us. In John 12:20-21, we see the fulfillment of Sukkot and how the Messiah would be glorified as the world’s Savior, Lord, and King. We also see how Yeshua reveals Himself at Sukkot according to John 7:1-10.
Revelation 7:15 reminds us that we are only passing through this world and that it is transitional and temporary, just as the sukkah is a temporary dwelling place for a time during this feast.
What are some of your plans to celebrate Sukkot this season?
